Ian Borg Uses Throwback To Remind People Malta Independent Had Endorsed Central Link
Transport Minister Ian Borg has reminded people how The Malta Independent had endorsed the Central Link project back in 2017.
In a tweet, Borg posted the editorial, which advised the Transport Ministry to “get on with it” despite anger from Attard residents.

“Our advice to the @MaltaGov and the transport ministry is to get on with it and to start with preparatory works that will bring relief to so many drivers, and even to the Attard residents themselves.” #CentralLinkProject #GettingThingsDone @InfraMalta pic.twitter.com/FGlsuYEAXg— Ian Borg (@followianborg) July 30, 2019
His tweet was shared by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, Infrastructure Malta CEO Fredrick Azzopardi and several other people.
“It is inconceivable in this day and age that a minority, and a hidden one at that, can block the needs of the majority,” the paper wrote. “It is inconceivable that people have to waste time and fuel queuing when they could have an easier start to the day.”
“Our advice to the government and the ministry of transport is thus to get on with it and to start the preparatory works that will bring relief to so many drivers, and even to the Attard drivers themselves.”
Around a thousand people gathered in Attard on Sunday to protest against the Central Link project, which will involve the destruction of hundreds of trees and the take-up of large tracts of agricultural land.
However, Borg argued that the vast majority of people are actually in favour of the project and the way it will alleviate traffic.
