IĠM Condemns Vile Act After Man Spits On ONE Journalists Outside Parliament
The Institute for Maltese Journalists has “unreservedly condemned the vile and despicable acts” outside Parliament last night after a man spat at ONE TV journalists.
This comes after a man was spotted spitting at journalists from ONE TV outside of Parliament, which is the Labour-owned media house.
“The institute expresses its full solidarity with ONE TV journalists and camerapersons who were targeted by this vile behaviour,” it said in a statement.
It stressed that hurling any form of abuse at journalists is never acceptable, and the institute urged the police to investigate the matter and bring the person to justice.
“At the same time, as it has been said time and time again, it is truly unfortunate that the level of respect towards journalists is continuing its downward trend as the authorities and politicians continue to denigrate the sector with certain comments targeting journalists.”
“The institute once again calls on the authorities to acknowledge the role of the media, and its vital importance for a healthy democracy and take action to ensure the safety of journalists at all times.”
Last night, a heated protest organised by the Nationalist Party was held outside of Parliament, against the now-declared-fraudulent Steward hospital deal.
