‘In A Normal Country, We Get Back Stolen Money’: PN Opens Case To Have €400 Million From Vitals Deal Returned
PN leader Bernard Grech and deputy head Adrian Delia have just presented a motion in Parliament to force the government to return the €400 million from the controversial Vitals hospital deal back to the people.
The motion says that the €400 million that was stolen from the Maltese and Gozitan people should be returned to the people immediately and only Prime Minister Robert Abela has the authority to open the case for the money to be brought back.
“In a normal country, when there are criminal acts, we take those responsible to court,” Bernard Grech said in Parliament today. “In a normal country, we return stolen money to the people. In a normal country, the Opposition Leader doesn’t need to open a case like this.”

In a normal country, the police commissioner does his job. The General Attorney does his job. The ex-PM doesn’t give 400 million away.”
The motion also says that the Court of Appeal not only confirmed the sentence given by the First Chamber of the Civil Court on 24 February 2023 but even ordered the Government to pay the costs of the case, once the Court found that high exponents of the Government or its agencies were complicit in committing the fraud in the sale of the three public hospitals.
PN MP Adrian Delia announced that the courts have rejected an appeal by Steward against a landmark decision against them last February.
“Malta has won,” he said.
The Maltese government has issued an official statement in light of today’s confirmation by the appeals court that the Vitals-Steward hospital concession should be annulled.
The statement notes that the government didn’t challenge the original ruling and that it has been in control of St Luke’s, Gozo and Karin Grech since last April.
However, it makes no mention of the court’s ruling that senior government officials had colluded with Steward and Vitals throughout, only withdrawing their support when Steward filed an appeal.
Bernard Grech and Adrian Delia, on behalf of the Opposition, asked that all the necessary actions be taken, including but not limited to instituting legal procedures so that the government will recover any amount improperly paid to Steward Malta Assets Limited and Vitals Global Healthcare Assets Limited and/or their subsidiaries from Maltese citizens.
