In Photos: Neglect And Vandalism Leaves Qormi Park Looking Apocalyptic

A park in Qormi has raised concerns as being unfit for purpose due to neglect and a wave of vandalism that has left it in shambles.

Photos of the park, located between two main roads of Triq L-Imdina and Triq Manuel Dimech, show graffiti on play structures for children, including some blasphemies, while the foam tiling on several parts has been uprooted, exposing the concrete underneath and posing a risk to young children.

Other structures, including a fitness device and permanent playthings, lay on the floor likely due to vandalism.

Nationalist MP Jerome Caruana Cilia submitted a Parliamentary Question to Clifton Grima, Parliamentary Secretary for Youth, Sport and Voluntary Organisations about any pending maintenance of the public space.

“It’s the only public space in that area, and it has been like this for a whole month,” Caruana Cilia said.

Grima responded and said that necessary works “happen every year as necessary”. The Local Council has been informed and a public call for maintenance is due, but no date has been given as to when the works will happen and finish.

In the meantime, residents must endure the park in its current state.
