Prime Minister Joseph Muscat kicked off his farewell tour ahead of his resignation on 12th January, so far visiting Naxxar and Ħaż-Żebbuġ, urging unity ahead of what could be a potentially divisive leadership campaign.

Contenders Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne and Robert Abela were in good spirits at the events, showing a unified front in their first public appearances together since announcing their leadership bids.

Muscat thanked supporters for loyalty, saying that while he is stepping down, he has no intentions to leave this movement.

The outgoing Prime Minister was forced to step down in the wake of the arrest and charge of Yorgen Fenech in connection with the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia and the alleged links to his office, namely his former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri.

However, he told supporters today that they should be the ones to author their history.
