India Tops The Ranks In Malta’s 106,000 Foreign Worker Breakdown
There is a higher number of Indian workers in Malta than from any other foreign country, official data has revealed.
New figures published by Finance Minister Clyde Caruana following a PQ by PN MP Graziella Galea show that there were 13,158 Indian nationals are registered as working in Malta in July 2023.
This means India is the most dominant country within Malta’s foreign workforce, ahead of Italy (11,566) people, the Philippines (9,560), Nepal (8,157), and the United Kingdom (5,144).

However, Malta has foreign workers from all around the world, from as far-flung places as Vanuatu, Turkmenistan, Yemen, Malawi, and Bhutan.
As of July, the Maltese economy employed 37,224 EU, EEA and EFTA nationals and 68,775 third-country nationals, for a combined total of 105,999. This means the number of foreign workers has continued to rise significantly, up by almost 30,000 people from the 77,825 that were registered in 2021.
