Injured Ambulance Responders Rescued After Being Caught In Ugly Qormi Crash As Five Hospitalised
Five people were injured in an ugly traffic incident that saw an ambulance crash into a parked truck, smashing into two further cars.
The crash left two Emergency Ambulance Responders trapped in their vehicle by their legs, leading to the Civil Protection Department rescuing the injured men.
The crash happened at around 2.45pm on Triq tal-Kanun, Qormi, when the ambulance driver, a 55-year-old from Imqabba, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a parked truck.
The impact was great enough for the truck to forcefully enter into the ambulance’s front, injuring the 55-year-old alongside a 54-year-old from Safi who was also in the front of the ambulance.
In the rear of the ambulance, there was a 35-year-old male nurse from Mosta, as well as two women aged 49 and 23, both living in Ħad-Dingli. All individuals received medical attention and were transported to Mater Dei Hospital via various ambulances for the necessary care.
Later on, the 49-year-old woman and the two Emergency Ambulance Responders were certified to be in grievous condition, while the other two individuals were certified to have been injured slightly.
Following the incident, the area was closed off to traffic as responders dealt with the scene.
