Internal Investigation Launched Into Malta Police Force Following Allegations Of Widespread Abuse
Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that the Internal Audit and Investigation Department (IAID) is looking into allegations of widespread abuse and fraud among senior police officers, in response to questions by Lovin Malta.
“We asked the IAID to investigate not only what went down in the traffic department, but also the many other things that are happening in the local police force,” said Camilleri.
This comes after two Maltese traffic officers spoke to Lovin Malta earlier this month to shed light on the alleged crimes being committed by members of the police force.
The allegations include having high-ranking officers enrol in a full-time law course at the University of Malta and attend lectures during work hours. Apart from this, it was also reported that politicians from both parties as well as high-ranking officers requested fines to be revoked.
“I look forward seeing an end to this investigation and having its report released so that we can look into its conclusions and take the necessary steps in line with its findings,” said Camilleri.
