Investigation Opened Into Whether Benna Choc Milk Cartons Have Less Milk Than Promised
An official investigation has been launched into whether Benna’s protein-enriched chocolate milk cartons contain less milk than they claim to.
The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority confirmed with Lovin Malta that an investigation has been launched by the Standards and Metrology Institute.
Recently, a shopper called Daniel Borg decided to weigh milk cartons at a convenience store after noticing that the ones he had purchased contained way less milk than the one litre stipulated on the cartons.
A video taken by Borg shows him weighing two milk cartons – the first weighed 732ml and the second 942ml, a significant discrepancy of almost 200ml.

Borg said that he weighed other milk cartons and all were under 1L, but a Benna spokesperson said that internal investigations indicated his was an isolated incident.
“We recognise the critical importance of transparency and precision in product information, and we are unwaveringly committed to maintaining the trust our customers have in the Benna brand,” a Benna spokesperson told Lovin Malta.
“Initial findings indicate that this appears to be an isolated incident. Multiple cartons from the same batch were thoroughly examined and found to have the correct volume. However, we acknowledge the inherent challenges in our production process, where the machinery produces approximately 100 cartons per minute.”
“We want to assure our customers, partners, and the general public that we regularly revise our quality control processes to prevent such discrepancies from happening. We are also investing in additional measures to augment the accuracy of our product information.”
“While we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this isolated incident may have caused, we want to emphasise our commitment to ensuring that our products consistently meet the highest standards of quality and accuracy.”
Benna added that consumers who purchase a dairy product that isn’t properly filled can report the issue on 21224472 and arrange for a replacement.
