Isabelle Bonnici Sends Strong Message To Powers That Be On One Year Anniversary Of Her Son Jean Paul’s Death

On the first anniversary of her son Jean Paul Sofia’s death at a Kordin construction site, Isabelle Bonnici has penned a sobering cry to the authorities and Maltese society.

If you, as a leader who believed your promise to improve Malta that we trusted you to carry, had kept your word instead of doing worse than what we expected.

If you, who are comfortable in your seats of power, had truly listened to what the people who elected you wanted, instead of only listening to your friends and friends of friends.

If you did your job as a minister, not out of fear of losing votes but out of fear that our children will die.

If you, as a contractor, didn’t let money blind you and take you over and didn’t steal the air we breathe.

If you, as an architect, did your job seriously rather than closing your eyes out of fear of losing your job.

If you, as an unskilled construction site worker, had found a job truly suited for you.

If you, who supplied construction material of inferior quality simply to make profit, had a conscience.

If you, as a public official on a salary much higher than you deserve, did what is required of you and at least knew what your job entails.

If you, who has been entrusted with authority to give to the people what belongs to them, did that rather than giving it to those who didn’t deserve it.

If you, an incompetent person who only landed your job because of your personal connections, with other people dying as a result of your mistakes, refused to work a job you were unqualified for.

If you, who has the power to do justice when necessary, did that rather than closing a blind eye to appease some ‘friend’ with brown envelopes.

If you, who are living it up on our taxes and couldn’t give a toss about what’s happening around you, start caring.

If you, who keep your mouth shut out of fear whenever you see wrongdoing and justice, speak out.

If you, whose heart doesn’t know what love means and whose mind is only used for personal gain, learned to love.

You are all complicit, and if it wasn’t for you my son would still be alive. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and a big hug to all the many who weren’t complicit. The fight for justice goes on despite this valley of tears.

Lovin Malta recently interviewed Isabelle Bonnici, and she gave us a tour of her late son’s bedroom, which has remained untouched since his tragic death.
