Italian Low-Cost Supermarket Eurospin To Open Right Near Lidl In Mosta
Low-cost supermarket giant Eurospin is set to open just next to its German rival Lidl in Mosta, according to Planning Authority plans.
This will be the second approved store after its planned opening on Aldo Moro road in Marsa, on the Salv Bezzina & Sons shipyard, and is part of the five stores planned for the islands, which could grow to as many as 12.
In May, the Planning Authority gave its go ahead for the demolition of the existing industrial complex in Marsa and its replacement with a supermarket, parking area and ancillary facilities spread over a total area of more than 7,600 square metres.
The actual supermarket retail space will cover approximately 1,400 square metres
The Mosta plans will include underground levels for around 150 cars and 18 parking spaces at street level. Plans were submitted by Christian James Gatt and Nathalie Gatt on behalf of Peprina Ltd, from whom Eurospin will be leasing the building.
The discount supermarket giant is hosting an open day at Excelsior today, looking to attract people to work in sales and as assistants, butchers, deli counter assistants, etc. in its stores. Globally, it has a workforce of around 22,000 in 1,200 stores, with a total turnover of a staggering €9 billion.
