‘It’s A Nightmare’: St Paul’s Bay Residents Suffering Constant Low Voltage Problems
A St Paul’s Bay resident has reached out to Lovin Malta to express his frustration at the persistent power cuts in his block of apartments as a result of low voltage.
The man, a Bulgarian national who has been living in Malta for the past 11 years, said he recently purchased and moved into an apartment on St Paul’s Street.
However, over the past month, he and is neighbours have been experiencing hundreds of power cuts caused by low voltage below 200V.
“There was the village feast last Saturday, the streets were all lit up, and yet our block experienced over 60 power cuts between 4pm and 9pm. Yesterday, we had 20 power cuts from 5pm to 9pm, and then the power went out until 11pm. It’s a nightmare.”
“We can’t cook, we can’t wash our clothes, we can’t start the AC, we can’t even watch TV. I spent around €30,000 on my appliances and I’m just waiting for some of them to start burning out.”
The resident said he called Enemalta around a month ago, and they sent a technician to check out the problem.
“He told us that we have a low voltage problem and that the issue must be transferred to another department. However, since then no one from Enemalta reached out to us. We call them up everyday to complain and they simply tell us that they’re updating our report and that we have to wait for a call from a technician.”
Moreover, he warned that only half the apartments in his block are occupied and questioned whether the problem will get worse if more people move in.
“I believe that the problem is that the country’s infrastructure isn’t growing at the same rate as the population and buildings,” he concluded.
