‘It’s Bollocks’: PN MEP Candidate On European Parliament’s Pro-Abortion Vote
PN MEP candidate Lee Bugeja Bartolo has come out strongly against the European Parliament’s declaration today that abortion is a fundamental right.
“I think it’s bollocks,” Bugeja Bartolo told Lovin Malta.
“We should be for life, we should celebrate life, and we should create a system that supports women who don’t want to carry through a pregnancy.”
“That’s non-negotiable, in my opinion, because the woman should be supported to carry the pregnancy. If she wants to give the child away, I have no problem with that. I have absolutely no judgment towards any woman who doesn’t want to bring up her child for whatever reason.”

Stressing that he wants to defend the right of unborn children, Bugeja Bartolo said the idea that abortion should be considered a fundamental right is “absolute nonsense”.
“It passed through the Parliament and I’m happy that Maltese MEPs voted against it; I would do the same a million times.”
The resolution adopted in the European Parliament earlier today, with 336 votes in favour, 163 against, and 39 abstentions, urges Malta and Poland to decriminalise abortion in line with the 2022 WHO guidelines and address any barriers to the medical procedure.
PL MEPs Alex Agius Saliba and Josianne Cutajar and PN MEP David Casa voted against it, while PL MEP Alfred Sant abstained and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola doesn’t vote on any subject. PL MEP Cyrus Engerer wasn’t present for the vote, but he had co-signed it and expressed his pride in being selected to negotiate the resolution.
