Malta’s Institute of Tourism Studies (ITS) will start its move to Smart City after the Planning Authority approved plans for a campus there.

It will be developed on the southwest portion of Smart City, taking up around 9,150 square metres. ITS was moved from its campus in St George’s Bay after the government leased the land to db group to construct a massive mixed-use development.

It will include classrooms, offices, a library with study rooms, a cafeteria and auditorium as well as an indoor pool with spa, a wine cellar, three restaurants with related kitchens, food science laboratories, a bakery, student rooms and five incubation centres.

A childcare centre, shops, parking and a basketball court will also be built.

The new facility has features to reach a near zero carbon footprint, using a water reservoir for irrigation and a dedicated area to effectively sort rubbish.

A 200kWp polycrystalline photovoltaic system will be installed, hoping to provide 4.6% of its total consumption.

What do you think of the plans?
