‘It’s What Karl Would Have Wanted’: PN Will Continue With Independence Festivities
The Nationalist Party has decided to continue with the Independence festivities “because that’s what Karl would have wanted, but also because it is the family’s wish,” the party wrote in a statement.
“The PN has an obligation to Karl to carry on where he left off. Karl Gouder always worked hard for the country and for the PN, and most recently gave his all to ensure the PN achieved a good result in the European Parliament and Local Council elections. Now, the responsibility and duty lie on our shoulders to continue where he left off.”
This was the main message of PN leader Bernard Grech this morning during an interview on NET TV.
Grech mentioned the many admirable qualities that Karl had, which went beyond his work: his ability to listen, to be compassionate, to help, and to solve problems. He reminded everyone of how Karl Gouder always put people first, genuinely being of service to others, something he also applied in his workplace.
“Karl’s loss is not just a loss for his family or for the Partit Nazzjonalista, but it is a loss for the entire country. Just as he did in his life and at work, even in his passing, Karl managed to unite the whole country, as was evident during the celebration of his life.”
The PN Leader thanked everyone who expressed their condolences for Karl’s passing, including the President of Malta Myriam Spiteri Debono, Prime Minister Robert Abela, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, and many others who attended the funeral or sent messages of condolence.
“This unity that Karl managed to create, the Partit Nazzjonalista wants to keep alive and continue to strengthen in a united way with one common goal.”
The PN will continue to seek the truth for Karl, not out of a desire for revenge, but because Karl deserves it, and his family and all those who loved him throughout his life also have the right to it.
Grech said that now the PN and everyone working within it must continue the work that was so close to Karl’s heart. That is why it has decided that the PN will proceed with the activities related to the 60th Anniversary of Independence celebrations.
“This was decided not only because Karl would undoubtedly have wanted it, but also because it is the wish of the Gouder family that these activities go ahead.”
Following the tragic news of Gouder’s death, the PN cancelled all activities related to Independence celebrations planned for today.
The theme for these festivities is ’il quddiem and during the events, the PN will continue to remember Karl, who will always remain in our hearts.
The theme was chosen to reflect the vision of the PN.
Bernard Grech recalled how the PN has achieved much for our country over the years and how today it is full of energy to write the next glorious chapters for Malta and our people.
The activities related to the Independence festivities will be held between the 18th and 20th of September at Triton Square, and the PN will announce all the details of these events tomorrow, Monday.
