Jake Vella’s Legacy Recognised With Special Award For Animal Welfare Efforts
Jake Vella, the 15-year-old athlete who touched the hearts of the nation, was posthumously awarded during the Animal Honours Awards held on Friday evening.
Known for his immense dedication to raising awareness and funds for abandoned animals, Jake’s parents, Josie and Mariska Vella, accepted the special award in his memory.
Jake, who passed away in August after battling the rare condition ROHHAD, was celebrated not only for his resilience and bravery but also for his deep love of animals.
Throughout his young life, Jake organised events aimed at supporting animal shelters and raising awareness about stray and abandoned animals.
Even at his funeral, funds were gathered and were later donated to the needs of animal welfare.
The award was presented by Lydia Abela, wife of the Prime Minister, during a night dedicated to honouring those who work tirelessly for animal rights and welfare in Malta.
The Animal Honours Awards, organised by the Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Rights, recognised both individuals and animals in various categories.
These categories included Adopted Pet of the Year, Best Animals in Uniform, and Shelter Animal Most Deserving of a Home.
Jake’s legacy continues to inspire, and this award serves as a reminder of his impact on animal welfare in Malta.
