Jason Azzopardi Reports PBS To Israeli Government Over Interview With Maltese Historian
Former PN MP Jason Azzopardi has reported PBS to the Israeli government over an interview with a historian who wrote a biography of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler in Maltese.
According to Azzopardi, this interview amounts to the “Maltese government promoting Nazi literature”.
“I have just sent a message to the Israeli Foreign Ministry and to the Israeli Embassy in Rome, covering Malta, telling them that PBS and the Maltese Government are promoting Nazi literature. Not in my name,” he said.
Ronald Bugeja was recently interviewed on TVM book show Ħajjietna Ktieb, hosted by John Demanuele, where he discussed his latest book – the first ever biography of Adolf Hitler in Maltese.
A number of people and organisations, including the Nationalist Party and PEN Malta, warned that this interview was tantamount to promoting Nazi ideology.
Bugeja was shocked at these accusations, telling Lovin Malta that he has never written in favour of Nazism and that his own great-grandfather Giuseppe Francica had actually died fighting the Nazis in World War Two.
However, PBS succumbed to pressure, pulled the interview from its website and launched an internal investigation. Demanuele also issued a public apology to people who might have felt offended by the show.
Do you think topics like Nazi ideology can be discussed on TV or are they too sensitive?
