Jason Micallef Endorses Ian Borg For Deputy Prime Minister
PL activist Jason Micallef has endorsed Ian Borg for the position of Deputy Prime Minister.
The role of PL deputy leader for parliamentary affairs will become vacant in September after Chris Fearne announced his decision to step down following his indictment over the Vitals-Steward inquiry. The PL statute states that this person is automatically appointed Deputy Prime Minister if the PL is in government.
And Micallef believes Borg is best placed to succeed Fearne in the top job.
“A contest is healthy but I believe that when we talk about a deputy leader, the PL needs a tried and tested person, a charismatic doer who brings unity who has experience under different administration,” he said on F Living.
“I believe that Ian Borg is the most ideal person from Cabinet to serve as deputy leader and Deputy PM. We all know how successful he was as Minister for Infrastructure and Transport. He worked in Joseph Muscat’s administration, he maintained a sense of unity, he had the best people around him, and most of his decisions were good.”
“There was some skepticism when he was appointed Foreign Minister – it’s traditionally a role people are given before they retire or before they are appointed President of the Republic. However, Ian Borg gave it an enormous platform and elevated the ministry internationally.”
Do you think Ian Borg should be Malta’s next Deputy Prime Minister?
