JeanPaul Sofia’s Mother Issues Impassioned Plea For Public Inquiry Into Son’s Death At Construction Site

JeanPaul Sofia’s mother Isabelle Bonnici has published an impassioned plea for a public inquiry into how her son died at a Kordin construction site last December.

“From now onwards, only my death can stop me from fighting for justice,” Isabelle Bonnici wrote.

“I want to know exactly what happened and whose hands have been stained with my son’s blood. Only through a public inquiry can the shortcomings in the sector come out in the open and recommendations be issued, which would perhaps lead to a proper reform.”

Sofia, 20, tragically died when a construction site collapsed on 3rd December and it took CPD officials 15 hours to retrieve his body from the rubble.

Prime Minister Robert Abela has resisted calls from his family to open a public inquiry, warning it could clash with ongoing police investigations.

However, Bonnici insisted that a public inquiry is necessary to ensure that her son wouldn’t have died for nothing.

“I don’t want any parent to go through what we have gone through. No one knows how much we loved him and where we ended up after this tragedy, which could have been avoided had everyone done their jobs properly.”

“Am I asking for too much after our lives were destroyed for good? A healthy youth’s life was ended thanks to greed and a lack of discipline that reigns in this country. Does no one have the decency to announce a public inquiry to improve shortcomings and ensure my son didn’t die for nothing?”

Bonnici urged people to share her appeal and spread the word, and her post has currently been shared almost 930 times.
