JeanPaul Sofia’s Parents Demand Compensation From Those Involved In Their Son’s Death

The parents of collapsed Kordin building’s victim JeanPaul Sophia are claiming compensation from all those involved in this tragedy.
Isabelle Bonnici and John Sofia filed the judicial letter against:
- Architect Adriana Zammit, Infrastructure Malta employee.
- Lands Authority official and alleged human trafficker Kurt Buhagiar.
- Matthew Schembri – a business partner of Buhagiar’s – who jointly own AllPlus Limited and director of Whitefrost Company Limited
- Boris and Elton Cutajar, concrete pump operators on the day of the incident
- Indis Malta Limited, landlord.
The building in question was being developed as a timber factory which collapsed dramatically while concrete was being poured over it.
It left Sofia – who was not supposed to be working on that day – dead, and five others were injured.
After seven months no one has been charged yet by the police. Appeals by the mother for a public inquiry have been snubbed so far and today parliament is set to take a vote on this issue as a result of an opposition motion.
A petition demanding a public inquiry raised 15,000 signatures in a few days.
The judicial letter was signed by lawyers David Bonello, Christine Bellizzi and Matthew Cutajar – and claimed that the collapse happened because of their actions, omissions and negligence and gave them all one week to come forward for the liquidation of damages.
They also warned them of further action in default.
Do you agree that a public inquiry should take place?
