A fuel station and restaurant involved in the crossfire of the murder of Pelin Kaya sustained damages totalling around €51,000.

This was revealed today in the compilation of evidence against Jeremie Camilleri, who was charged with killing Kaya after he drove his car into a KFC outlet in Gzira and a nearby petrol station.

During the court sitting, the KFC manager explained that Camilleri’s crash caused the outlet €37,012. The glass was completely shattered, and damages were also recorded to the tiles and marble.

The fuel station was hit by Camilleri’s car in three places, before ramming into the restaurant. The damages sustained amounted to around €14,000.

A witness, Mariella Aquilina, said she went to the site in the early hours of the morning. She saw the fuel pump’s main broken and a car lodged in the food outlet’s window. She also recalled seeing a body on the floor.

Pelin Kaya, 30, was a Turkish woman who was murdered in the early hours of the morning on 18th January 2023.

Since then, alleged murderer Jeremie Camilleri, who was high on cocaine at the time of the incident, has been charged with wilful homicide.

A memorial stone has since been placed by the family where she died, and sampling trees have been planted in her honour.
