Jon Mallia Challenges Abela And Grech To Public Debate On Manoel Island

Il-Każin presenter Jon Mallia has challenged Prime Minister Robert Abela and Opposition Leader Bernard Grech to a public debate on Manoel Island.

Both political leaders have spoken out in favour of respecting the government’s contract with MIDI to develop Manoel Island.

However, Mallia was having none of it.

“I challenge both party leaders to come to Il-Każin and debate on Manoel Island,” he told Lovin Malta.

“They must explain, face to face, the stance they have taken and why they’ve refused to negotiate a better deal for the Maltese people they claim to represent.”

In a Facebook post, Mallia ripped into PL and PN for “not safeguarding Maltese children”.

“How can you be so shameful? Haven’t your stomachs developed a single ulcer out of concern?” he questioned.

“The fight to take Manoel Island back isn’t easy, but neither is it impossible. Those who claim that it is are either lying or have no idea what they’re talking about.”

He questioned why the government found enough money to file legal challenges against former Gżira mayor Conrad Borg Manche’s battle against a petrol station at Ġnien l-Ewropa but doesn’t want to fork out funds to reclaim Manoel Island.

“How much of our taxes were wasted to ensure a petrol station eats up a part of the garden? However, when it comes to Manoel Island, it’s suddenly impossible – as though our children have all the space they need to enjoy themselves.

“I am not targeting MIDI, who are right to safeguard their shareholders’ interests. However, I am addressing our MPs, who are paid from our taxes to represent our interests – how come not a single one of you has stood up and stirred the country alongside you?”
