Jon Mallia Urges Malta To Pass Law To Stop Minors Visiting Porn Sites
Podcaster Jon Mallia has said that Malta should follow in the footsteps of US state Louisiana in passing a law to make pornographic websites more accountable when it comes to denying entry to underage users.
“I am convinced that Malta should immediately explore these kinds of laws and adopt them in some form or other,” Mallia said
Louisiana’s new law forces pornographic websites to check that users in the state are over 18 years old or run the risk of being sued. The responsibility has therefore been shifted onto the websites themselves.
While the law itself doesn’t make it illegal to allow children to access pornographic websites, it does enables people to sue sites that do not have age checks. This forces these websites to put further safeguards in place to ensure that underage users do not have access to these sites.
Currently in Malta there are no such verification requirements.
While it is prohibited for minors to view or access pornographic websites or material, adding further verification requirements could help protect minors from viewing such material.
While it may not be explicitly illegal, it’s worth noting that viewing pornographic materials under the age of 18 could be considered an act of possession, and in some cases could be considered harmful to minors and punishable by law.
In any case, viewing or accessing pornographic materials can have harmful effects on children, and as a parent or guardian, you should be aware of your child’s online activities and take steps to protect them from inappropriate content.
