Joseph Calleja Calls Out ‘Inequity’ Of COVID-19 Measures As People Flock To Gozo For New Year’s Eve
Popular Maltese tenor has warned of a “inequity” in COVID-19 measures after several people travelled to Gozo to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
“This is the inequity I have been angry about for several months,” Calleja tweeted, sharing an article about a long queue of vehicles waiting to board the Gozo ferry.

“Virus is really cultured- loves concert halls and opera houses but hates private/massive house parties with DJs.”
“Problem is not about the Maltese, but about the different “standards” applied,” he then told a follower. “It’s like the virus has a mind of its own and will not enter a restaurant but will go to a concert hall.”
Earlier today, Health Minister Chris Fearne urged people to adhere to public health guidelines when celebrating New Year’s Eve tonight.
“Going up to Gozo with your family is fine, but you shouldn’t mix with other families,” he said.
What do you make of the tenor’s assessment?
