Joseph Calleja Warns Malta ‘In Serious Trouble’ After Reports Marsa Band Club Has Banned Black People

One of Malta’s most famous exports, tenor Joseph Calleja, has warned Malta would be “in serious trouble” if reports that a Marsa band club has banned black people are accurate.
“I never and will never state that Malta can solve the Mediterranean’s migration woes but if this story is true we are in serious trouble,” Calleja tweeted. “Integration is key and this cannot be allowed.”
MaltaToday has reported that the Holy Trinity Band Club in Marsa is refusing entrance to black patrons due to a surge in disorderly behaviour in the town. Although the band club officially denied that this is the case, the man in charge of the bar told a journalist who visited the premises that the band club had recently adopted a membership-only policy.

When the journalist pointed out he had not been asked for his membership at the door, the bartender reportedly responded: “But you’re Maltese… It may sound racist but we’re forced to enforce such rules.”
The band club’s reported action comes amidst growing concerns about the impact of migrants on certain towns.
The migrant sceptic party Moviment Patrijotti Maltin recently announced it will, for the first time, field local council candidates in towns like Ħamrun, Marsa and St Paul’s Bay that have been “invaded” by foreigners.
