Joseph Micallef, a 73-year-old farmer, has been charged with the attempted murder of Noel Ciantar.

The incident happened on 19th August in the limits of Simblija in Wied Ħażrum in Dingli. Ciantar is the owner of a medieval settlement in Simblija which has been at the centre of certain disputes

Micallef was charged earlier this afternoon and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

However, his request for bail was denied by Magistrate Lara Lanfranco after the prosecution argued that there were people who still needed to be questioned.

Ciantar is now stable following a stint in the ITU but there were points where he was at risk of dying. He was discharged from ITU earlier today.

Prosecutors revealed that Ciantar told police that he suspected that Micallef was the shooter.

Micallef was arrested on Saturday evening. CCTV footage reportedly caught Micallef around the area at the time of the shooting. He reportedly lives in the area.
