Joseph Muscat Recounts Silvio Parnis’s Final Emotional Minutes Before Passing Away As He Pays Tribute To Former MP
Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has recounted the final moments he spent with former MP and social justice champion Silvio Parnis before his death earlier today.
“I was afraid I wasn’t going to make it and see you since we were abroad,” Muscat said, sharing an image of the two former politicians together.
“The last time I spoke to you last week, you were still at home. As usual, you didn’t complain and you said you weren’t feeling bad. You kept it inside. When you entered hospital and I spoke to Dorianne, it was clear what was happening.”
That’s when it became clear to the Muscats how grave the situation was.
“When Michelle and I came near you, we know this would be the final farewell, but we had no idea we had arrived when you were taking your last few breathes and that you would leave us minutes later.”
As tributes pour in from across the country about Parnis and the work he did with the citizens of Malta, Muscat had his own analysis.
“Everyone knows how much good you did for ordinary people in their every day life. In a way, it was nearly a mission for you. Some people would say this is clientelism. But it’s nothing of the sort. You were there for those who didn’t even have a family to help them.”
“Now, it’s our turn to watch over you family, wife and children, and they’ll find us waiting.”
