Joseph Muscat Wants To Integrate Maltese Falcon Into New Premier League Logo

Malta Premier League chairman and former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat wants the Maltese Falcon included in a new logo for the nation’s top football league.
Muscat announced that the MPL and the Malta Football Association are launching a public call for a total brand identity of the new tournament, which will controversially replace the regular league with a split season.

The current Maltese Premier League emblem portrays half a trophy on a shield, but Muscat said it should directly identify with the country and be tied to both history and pop culture.
“While the Maltese Cross is undoubtedly the most identifiable symbol, a massively underutilised icon is The Maltese Falcon, whose name and image have considerable international resonance,” he said.
“Moreover, the choice of a mascot related logo, as in the case of the English Premier League’s Lion, makes the case for an iconic image.”

He also announced a design call for a new championship trophy, which will be retained for a year by the reigning champions.
The PPL, a joint venture between the MPL and the MFA, will accept submissions by 15th March and the winner will be announced by 31st May.
The winning submission for brand identity will be awarded €2,000 while the winning trophy design submission will be awarded €1,000.
However, the PPL reserves the right not to give the award if it feels none of the submissions meet the necessary standard.
