PL Floriana councillor and former Malta goalie Justin Haber has apologised for sending his sister a voice message in which he threatened to behead her.

“I would like to begin by openly acknowledging that I was at fault for the statement I made,” Haber said.

“I deeply regret my words and, as I stated in court this morning, I am truly sorry. I have since issued a formal apology.”

Haber sent his sister Pearl Vella Haber the voice note after she had cut off all contact with her family for personal reasons.

“I believe it is important to provide some context,” he said.

“Every child, when faced with the pain and suffering of a parent – especially one battling cancer – naturally feels overwhelmed and emotionally vulnerable.”

“In such moments, the priority becomes the wellbeing of that parent. Under immense stress, people sometimes say things they do not mean. That was the case here.”

“While this does not excuse my actions, I hope it offers some understanding of the emotional state I was in at the time. I never intended to cause harm.”

“At the same time, I must also express my disappointment at those who attempt to create a story out of the suffering of others. I forgive those whose only intention is to cause pain, even if they do so by twisting facts or exploiting sensitive situations.”

“I remain loyal to the beliefs and principles I have held since my childhood — values of respect, responsibility, and integrity. I leave it to genuine people to judge me for who I am, rather than those who seek only to inflict suffering with their words and actions.”
