After Justin Tabone’s Tragic Death, This Local Brand Collaborated With A Doctor To Make AEDs More Accessible

A local brand has decided to team up with a doctor to make AED machines more accessible around the Maltese islands.
This comes as a response to the tragic death of 22-year-old Justin Tabone, who collapsed due to a heart attack while playing football earlier this week. Unfortunately, first responders did not find access to an AED, and by the time an ambulance arrived, it was too late.
Local brand Karti Bil-Bajd was moved by the tragic event and wanted to do something to create more awareness on the matter by creating a website.
The newly launched website went live earlier today, and it offers information and a compiled list of where to locate AEDs in Malta.
“Considering that Karti Bil-Bajd is followed by mostly young people, this motivated us to act upon yesterday’s tragic event involving the young man,” a representative told Lovin Malta.
“As Karti Bil-Bajd we have created a non-profitable website for a good cause, in order to easily access information with regards to the whereabouts of each public AED in Malta.”
“Alongside this, it was done with the intent to share information on how to use AED and where one can find more information and purchase their own AED. This initiative was backed by Dr Stefan Buttigieg,” they said.
An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a medical device designed to analyze the heart rhythm and deliver an electric shock to victims of ventricular fibrillation to restore the heart rhythm to normal.
Ventricular fibrillation is the uncoordinated heart rhythm most often responsible for sudden cardiac arrest.
