PN MP Karl Aquilina said he will summon Christian Borg and the Tal-Maksar brothers Adrian and Robert Agius to Parliament as witnesses in a case he is set to face in front of the privileges committee.

Speaker Anġlu Farrugia ruled today that there was enough evidence for Aquilina to appear in front of Parliament’s privileges committee over his remark that Prime Minister Robert Abela is an associate of criminals (“sħab mal-kriminali”).

Although he gave Aquilina the chance to retreat his comments, the PN MP refused to do so and chose to face the privileges committee, which is chaired by the Speaker and includes three PL MPs and two PN MPs.

Aquilina said he doesn’t care what the committee will eventually conclude as it is “completely biased in favour of the Prime Minister” but he is nevertheless looking forward to presenting evidence and summoning witnesses.

He said he will summon Christian Borg, who is facing kidnapping and money laundering charges. Abela and his wife Lydia had in 2018 reportedly sold their stake in a Żabbar property they had purchased a few months earlier to Borg, making a profit of around €45,000.

He will also summon the Tal-Maksar brothers, who are both currently inmates at Kordin.

The PN accused Abela of “hiding” behind the Speaker and an imbalanced committee, while the PL called out the PN for its “arrogance” towards Farrugia.
