‘Keep Pushing Jake’: Young Athlete Currently In Hospital ‘Fighting A Battle Of His Own’
One of Malta’s youngest and most inspirational endurance athletes, Jake Vella, is currently in the hospital fighting a battle of his own.
“In these tough times, it would be good for us to all keep him in our thoughts,” Bulletproof Culture said in a post last night.
Jake, who was Bulletproof’s award winner of the Most Inspirational Athlete of 2021, battles a rare condition called ROHHAD (Rapid-onset Obesity with Hypothalamic dysfunction, Hypoventilation, and Autonomic Dysregulation).
This condition impacts his hormones, and they make it extremely difficult to lose weight, no matter how hard he trains or the healthy lifestyle he leads.
“To my hero Jake Vella, you are so much in my thoughts and prayers right now dude. Sending much love,” Trudy Kerr wrote on social media.
“We ask all the MYTA family & community to spare a thought for Jake Vella, who is currently fighting another battle in the hospital. Jake has been a #MYTAN for many years, and his parents, Josie and Maruska have been part of our community and good friends to us all. We love you, Jake,” Malta Youth Training Academy said.
“The most inspirational person needs your prayers to win another battle,” another supporter said.
Last year, Jake completed a staggering 100km swim aimed at raising funds for abandoned animals and raising awareness about plastic pollution.
Stay strong Jake!
