Konrad Mizzi Seeking Out Of Court Settlement In Caruana Galizia Libel Case Over Extramarital Affair

Lawyers representing former minister Konrad Mizzi are looking to iron out an out-of-court settlement in a libel case instituted by Mizzi against Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The case was filed in relation to a blogpost by Daphne Caruana Galizia in which she had claimed that Mizzi was having an affair with his communications aide Lindsey Gambin, who also sued the late journalist.

The case was due to resume this morning but lawyer Edward Gatt asked the court for some more time so that an out-of-court settlement could be agreed upon between the parties.

During the last sitting, the magistrate asked both parties whether there was any possibility that the matter could be decided out of court, with both parties saying they were open to the possibility.

The court also heard the lead investigator in the Caruana Galizia murder investigation testify about information obtained from Fenech’s phone, which it had been claimed contained Gambin’s number listed as “lover of Konrad Mizzi”.

Arnaud told the court that he could not find any such contact, but said that his colleagues would be better positioned to answer such questions.

Gatt has taken on Mizzi as a client after his previous lawyer Aron Mifsud Bonnici informed the courts that he was renouncing his brief.

Gatt was already representing Gambin in the case and informed the court that he would be taking on Mizzi as his client.

The case will resume on 17th January 2022.
