Konrad Mizzi Laughs Off Age Gaffe: ‘Even When I Was A Glint In My Dad’s Eye, I Was Shaping Aviation Policy’
Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi has seen the funny side of an interview in which he was quoted as saying that he remembers Air Malta’s first flights, which took place three years before he was even born.
“Even when I was a glint in my dad’s eye, I was already shaping aviation policy. Lol!” Mizzi told Lovin Malta. “Seriously, this was a mistake and a typo at office. When we screw up, we admit it.”
The interview, which was published by Air Malta’s free in-flight magazine Il-Bizzilla, is believed to have been written by a ghostwriter.
Some PN politicians took it as evidence that Mizzi is a pathological liar.
“My parents taught me that people who lie about small things will be ready to lie about larger things,” PN MEP candidate Peter Agius said. “Could the minister be lying about other things?”
“If Konrad Mizzi is able to lie about his own age, what do you think he did when caught red-handed raking in €5,000-A-DAY along with the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff from the owner of the new power station?” PN MP and former leader Simon Busuttil tweeted. “That’s right, he lied too.”
