Lawyer and former PN MP Jason Azzopardi has claimed to have into possession of information showing that former minister Konrad Mizzi had sent a threatening message to former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

“Dear Konrad, you know about the €26 million in public funds that were spent on Vitals’ brokerage and consultancy fees, right?” Azzopardi posted today.

“When they call you in, make sure you keep your word,” he said, before exposing what he said is a message Mizzi had sent “Ix-Xiħ”, a nickname for Muscat infamously coined by murder suspect Yorgen Fenech.

The message allegedly went along the lines of: “If I get arrested, I wouldn’t even have left the police car before I start revealing everything I know and bringing everyone down with me”.

Azzopardi told Lovin Malta that Mizzi said those words a few months ago but declined to comment further.

He concluded his message with a warning to Mizzi, who as Health Minister was responsible for the original hospital concession to Vitals which was eventually transferred to Steward Healthcare.

“When you go to prison, I will make sure I will be there to see you get escorted inside, so long as it’s before 6pm, the time before which lawyers are allowed to visit prison. If it’s later than 6pm, I will come the next morning after fall in.”

In another post, Azzopardi warned police commissioner Angelo Gafa’ that he will be held personally responsible if Mizzi “escapes Malta to avoid his inevitable arrest”.
