KSU To Unveil Mural For Daphne Caruana Galizia During University Vigil On Monday
Kunsill Studenti Universitarji (KSU) is set to unveil a mural commemorating the memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia, during a vigil next Monday.
Tomorrow, 16th October, marks five years since the brutal assassination of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
“This tragedy sent shockwaves locally as well as on an international level, reminding everyone of the importance of the freedom of the press ought to have,” KSU said in a statement.
“Irrelevant to one’s political ideology, the murder of a journalist must be categorically condemned by all of us. We must never forget that activism in all its forms, including investigative journalism, must be treasured and celebrated,” it continued.
For this reason, KSU is inviting people to attend a vigil on Monday 17th October at 5.30pm at CP4, near quadrangle, to celebrate Daphne Caruana Galizia’s work and memory but also as a call for justice to be served, after half a decade since the tragedy.
“During this vigil we will be unveiling a mural dedicated to Daphne Caruana Galizia as permanent memory, to be commemorated by all current and future students, academics, staff, and visitors as a symbol that the University’s ethos ties in with the Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press.”
“We encourage you to attend and we remind you to be mindful of the context and to be respectful at all times.”
