Labour Reactivates Its English-Language News Website The Journal
The Labour Party has reactivated its English-language website The Journal, with former ONE TV head of news Sandro Mangion appointed as editor.
The Journal was originally formed in 2021, with Randolph Debattista as editor, but went dormant last year after Debattista was reappointed PL CEO and co-opted into Parliament.
It has now come back to life under the editorship of Mangion, who left his job at the helm of ONE TV earlier this year to be replaced by Josef Caruana.
“In today’s world, it is more important than ever to have a space where people can come together to discuss and analyse news, current affairs, and relevant issues in a genuine and meaningful way. The Journal is designed to provide that space,” the website states.
“Our goal is to provide a multifaceted and open-minded insight into matters that affect our lives, whether they are of local, national, or global concern. We do not shy away from tackling controversial issues, and do not hesitate to ask challenging questions.”
“Our content is put together by our own team as well as by guest contributors from different backgrounds and perspectives. The Journal is owned by Partit Laburista, which has created this space for discussion. Nonetheless, the views expressed by columnists on this portal do not necessarily reflect the PL’s policies or positions.”
Its articles so far include an interview with a Maltese-Israeli national about the war in Gaza, another one with a Gaza resident, an editorial praising the recent announcement of a minimum wage increase, and an article by someone using the pseudoynm ‘Goldilocks’ about the state of affairs within the PN.
There have also been articles that are critical of the PL, such as this one warning that the loyalty of PL supporters shouldn’t be taken for granted and this one describing the PL leadership’s mission to maintain its eletorally vicotorious legacy as a “poisoned chalice”.
What do you think of The Journal’s output so far?
