Labour Takes Traditionally-PN St Paul’s Bay Local Council

The Labour Party has delivered yet another devastating blow to the Nationalist Party on the first day of local council elections, snatching the traditionally PN local council of St Paul’s Bay after that of Valletta.

Alfred Grime will be elected Mayor of St Paul’s Bay.

The PN is also facing a strong challenge in St Julian’s, but is expected to keep its majority.

While not necessarily as hyped as the MEP elections, the loss of key localities will certainly put pressure on embattled PN Leader Adrian Delia.

The PN has won Balzan and Għasri so far, in what is looking like a poor electoral performance for the struggling party.

On the other hand, the PL has kept control of Mellieħa, winning 5 seats to the PN’s 4. The PL has also won Ta’ Xbiex, Imqabba, Pembroke, Marsa, Qrendi and Dingli.

Tonight sees the counting of Group A of three, which includes the following localities:

Birzebbuġa, Għajnsielem, Dingli, Balzan, Tarxien, Żebbuġ, Valletta, Fontana, Marsa, Mellieħa, Qrendi, Nadur, Xewkija, Żejtun, Żurrieq, Għasri, Iklin, Mqabba, Pembroke, St Julian’s, St Paul’s Bay, Santa Venera and Ta’ Xbiex
