The Labour Party’s women’s forum Nisa Laburisti has stuck its neck out for PL MP Rosianne Cutajar after her WhatsApp chats with murder suspect Yorgen Fenech were leaked.

“The way in which content of private chats from several years ago is being published on the eve of a libel hearing how political debate can develop in a cruel way,” Nisa Laburisti said.

“Furthermore, Nisa Laburisti notes with regret that this suggests that in this country certain individuals feel comfortable attacking in this misogynistic way, including disregarding court orders.”

“This is unacceptable, and we cannot remain silent about this consistent action, especially because it is taking place in the context of the political confrontation of a woman.”

The chats were sensationally leaked yesterday by former book council chair Mark Camilleri, who Cutajar sued for libel for claiming that she had an affair with Fenech to advance herself politically.

Cutajar responded by asking the Criminal Court and the Attorney General to intervene on the grounds that the material likely originated from Fenech’s phone, which police seized after he was arrested for the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.
