Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has commented on the protest and subsequent march to Parliament last night that resulted in a minister’s car being encircled by an angry crowd. In the resulting fracas, two police officers were injured – at least one of them due to the minister’s car running over her foot – PBS reporters were reportedly harassed, and the minister’s car was damaged.

“Criticism should always occur with complete calmness, without provocations, and without people falling back on provoking others,” he said this morning.

“I believe that this was a reaction of just a handful of people, a reaction that brings anger, even from those who agree with their argument, but not with their method.”

His comments came as he was surrounded by various ministers, including Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi, Economy Minister Chris Cardona and Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne, during an activity in Gozo.

Malta was rocked yesterday with the shocking news that one of Malta’s most prominent businessmen, Yorgen Fenech, had been intercepted by the Armed Forces of Malta attempting to flee the country at 5:45 am last night aboard his private yacht.

When the news broke that he had been arrested in connection with the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, an impromptu protest was organised in front of Castille in Valletta at 6 pm last night.

After the emotional protest, a segment of the crowd marched to Parliament before the crowd turned angry, eventually encircling a minister’s cars, banging and spitting on it while chanting words like “pul?inelli” at the two ministers inside the vehicle.
