Latest Survey Puts Labour 50,000 Votes Ahead Of PN, Months Before Election

The Labour Party would win an election held today by a 50,000-vote margin, according to the findings of a Times of Malta survey.

With a maximum of 11 months to go until the next general election, the survey’s findings don’t bode well for the Nationalist Party’s (PN) chances.

According to the survey, the PN enjoys the support of 42% of the electorate, compared with the 57% of respondents who said they would vote Labour.

A MaltaToday survey last month similarly put Labour’s lead at 48,000 votes.

The findings suggest that Labour would win an election by a greater margin than it did in 2017.

Asked who should lead the country, respondents showed a clear preference for current Prime Minister Robert Abela. 44% said they preferred Abela while Bernard Grech was the preferred choice of 17% of respondents.

A quarter of respondents, however, said they preferred neither candidate.

Of note is the lack of support Grech commands within his own party. While 82% of those who voted Labour in 2017 said they supported Abela, only 54% of PN voters said they supported Grech.

Both parties were found to have lost the support of roughly 15% of their voters in 2017.
