Prime Minister Robert Abela said that 27th December could soon become Malta’s National Anthem Day.

Abela appeared on JD, Rossi and Abel’s Magic Malta show, where Valentina told him that Malta should have its own national anthem day, just as the United States does.

The Prime Minister said it was a good idea and pledged to do his utmost to make it happen.

“The Innu Malti was sung for the first time on 27th December 1922, so that should be its national day. Our anthem is part of our identity. Not only will we consider this idea but I’ll do my utmost to make it happen. It might have started as a joke but it’s a very good idea.”

Unfortunately, the Prime Minister appeared to rule out making 27th December Malta’s 15th public holiday of the year.
