€10 Million Pledged To Transform Paceville Into An ‘Upmarket Tourism Destination’

The Ministry for Tourism, along with the Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) and the Mediterranean Tourism Foundation have announced a €10 million embellishment programme for the Paceville area, with the intention of transforming Paceville into an “upmarket tourism destination, and one of the best in the Mediterranean”.

“The design concept will be contemplated over the next three months and it will look at new attractions, amenities, CCTV installations, and embellishment of public spaces,” a government spokesperson told Lovin Malta.

Minister for Tourism Konrad Mizzi announced this programme during a meeting with Paceville stakeholders, where he said the budget had been allocated with the aim of strengthening infrastructure to support this “ever-growing destination and address the current challenges”.

Minister Mizzi explained that Paceville accommodates around 21% of all guest nights in Malta and around 25% of tourists, amounting to around 600,000 visits to Paceville annually.

The embellishment project is being done in collaboration with WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, in collaboration with Grimshaw.

“During the coming months, a process of engagement consultation and information mapping will be adopted, and a vision and high-level design will be drafted. Following this phase of works, a detailed design will be drafted to commence the implementation of this embellishment programme,” the Ministry of Tourism said.
