While presenting documents in Parliament, Minister for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment Byron Camilleri stated that, as of the end of December 2024, 12 individuals had selected ‘X’ as their preferred gender on their ID card.

Additionally, between 2013 and 2024, a total of 110 people legally changed their gender.

In response to a parliamentary question tabled by PN MP Graziella Attard Previ, the Minister confirmed that 12 individuals had chosen ‘X’ as their gender marker by the end of 2024.

Under the Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sex Characteristics (Amendment) Act, non-binary gender identities are legally recognised, allowing individuals to identify as non-binary and use the gender marker ‘X’ on all official documents.
