21-Year-Old Man Denied Bail After Being Charged With Threatening And Physically Harming A 15-Year-Old Girl
A 21-year-old man, Jake Dalli Balzan, has been denied bail after being charged as an accomplice in connection with a violent stabbing incident involving a 15-year-old girl.
The charges relate to an attack that occurred on November 23rd, during which the girl suffered injuries described as minor but deliberate.
Prosecutors alleged that Dalli Balzan and a group of accomplices ambushed the girl, using violence and intimidation against her.
While the attack was not intended to kill or cause serious harm, the prosecution highlighted its severity, including the use of a prohibited weapon.
The charges against Dalli Balzan include causing harm to the girl’s physical integrity and health, complicity in planning or facilitating the attack, and attempting to extort money or other benefits from her.
Additionally, he was accused of participating in a criminal gathering where two individuals carried weapons and of being in possession of a prohibited spring-loaded knife.
The court has ordered a ban on the publication of the victim’s name, however, her mother reached out to the lawyer Jason Azzopardi who in a Facebook post earlier this week shared her account of the events.
According to Azzopardi, who now represents the victim in court, the mother described how her daughter had become a target of bullying at school and had stopped attending due to escalating threats, ultimately leading to the incident.
In fact, according to Times of Malta, three days prior to the incident, the victim reported that her 13-year-old classmate was threatening to stab her unless she met her demands of money.
The 13-year-old in question was later revealed to have been the girlfriend of the 21-year-old Dalli Balzan, with whom she ambushed the victim alongside three others. One aggressor, who allegedly held a gun to the victim’s head, was also put under arrest.
The defendant was charged as an accomplice, since the knife was found on his person, yet, the 13-year-old could not be charged due to her age. Despite all the evidence, the defendant denied all allegations, even pleading that he had no knowledge of who the girl even was.
Meanwhile, a protection order was placed on the victim while she is still recovering from the injuries sustained during the assault, which has left her family shaken and fearful for her safety.
