21-Year-Old Marsaskala Resident Charged With Threatening To Kill Partner If She Doesn’t Abort Baby
A 21-year-old Syrian man has been charged with threatening to kill his partner if she did not terminate her pregnancy.
The accused, Yusef Hamki Said, allegedly issued death threats to his partner upon learning of her pregnancy, demanding she undergo an abortion.
Said, who resides in Marsaskala, pleaded not guilty to the charges during court proceedings.
The prosecution objected to a bail request from the defense, citing the accused’s lack of fixed ties to Malta, the absence of a stable local address, and concerns over potential tampering with evidence.
They emphasised the need to protect the victim and other witnesses who are expected to testify.
The defence argued that the accused has ties to Malta through his unborn child and does have a residence. They also pointed out that Said had cooperated with the police, voluntarily presenting himself at a station to answer the allegations.
Despite these arguments, the court denied bail, remanding Said in custody until the compilation of evidence begins.
A protection order has also been issued in favour of the victim, who was asked to leave the courtroom before proceedings began.
The case is ongoing, with further hearings expected to determine the outcome of the allegations, with Inspector Antonello Magri leading the prosecution.
