A man who had to be rescued from an underground Birgu reservoir yesterday afternoon has been found to be suffering from grievous injuries.

The delicate rescue operation was launched after the man, a 35-year-old Turkish worker who lives in Birkirkara, fell into a hole leading to a reservoir under the pjazza. Police have now confirmed that the men fell two and a half storeys.

“The worker was given immediate assistance by a medical team and was then taken to Mater Dei,” a police statement issued this morning read. “Members of the Civil Protection Department were also onsite to assist.”

While investigations into the accident are still underway, the man has since been certified to be suffering from grievous injuries.
