40 Days Later, Gozo Now Has Zero Active Cases Of COVID-19
Over one month since Malta’s tiny sister island recorded its first case of COVID-19, Gozo has now hit the coveted zero active cases milestone.
The good news was confirmed earlier today by Public Health Superintendent Charmaine Gauci during a round of questions by journalists, where she announced that a number of patients who had recovered in the last few days included all the previously positive cases from Gozo.
Gozo recorded its first COVID-19 case, a 69-year-old man, back on 20th March.
The Gozitan man, who had no recent travel history or any contact with people, had attended a meeting where health authorities suspected he contracted the virus.
Two weeks after that first case was announced, Gozo had 20 COVID-19 cases. The situation remained this way up to three days ago, when an updated version of the country’s cases-per-region diagram showed the same 20 in Gozo.
Coincidentally, this was the day that Malta registered zero new cases for the first time since COVID-19 landed on our shores nearly two months ago, and the beginning of a couple of days of double-digit numbers for recoveries.
