40 Maltese Cats Left Homeless After Local Sanctuary Closes Down – Now, They Really Need Your Help

40 Maltese cats have been left virtually homeless after Żurrieq’s Shiny Paws cat sanctuary announced it will be closing its doors.

From innocent kittens to blind felines, the cats need your help to find a new home – be it through financial aid or actually adopting one of them.

Joanna Mallia, who is currently offering her help to make sure the cats under the care of Shiny Paws do not end up back on the streets, told Lovin Malta that the sanctuary is closing down due to a lack of financial aid.

Explaining that local cat sanctuaries require around €250 for each cat taken in, she appealed to readers to help however they can, even if it’s just €1.

“If anyone can help, please do come forward. You can help by adopting one of the friendly ones or if you have a safe space like a safe garden please help us by taking one of the cats,” Joanne told Lovin Malta.

“If you can’t help by adopting, and you can donate, kindly do so on Revolut or BOV pay via 79703557.”

“Apart from the €250 donation per cat to enter the sanctuary, all cats need to see a vet before leaving the sanctuary to safeguard the other cats that they might mix with. This is costing a lot of money as well,” she explained.

“They all need a loving home and they cannot be put on the street, especially those who are blind or with special needs,” she appealed.

A fundraising dinner is also being organised for 9th February by Tomasina and CSAF Cat Sanctuary, to raise funds “for the love of cats”.

A shortage of funds is continuing to be a pressing issue for cat feeders and fosterers around the island, who many times end up being forced to give up their mission due to financial issues.
