54.1% Of Maltese People Support Regulated Hunting
Public opinion in Malta is showing a growing acceptance of regulated hunting practices. A recent Sagalytics survey revealed that 54.1% of respondents support sustainable hunting in a controlled manner, up from 50.4% in 2023.
This indicates a positive trend towards the Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FKNK)’s advocacy for hunting’s role in biodiversity and conversation efforts. With 33.2% opposing and 12.6% undecided, these findings show a majority favouring hunting as part of Malta’s wildlife management.
The increase from 37.4% support in the 2015 referendum to 54.1% in 2024 noting a significant shift in public sentiment.
In light of this evidence, the FKNK urges policymakers to incorporate public sentiment into future regulatory decisions, creating s balanced approach that aligns with both sustainable use and biodiversity goals.
But just yesterday, Birdlife Malta appealed to the EU, urging immediate action against Malta’s continued illegal finch trapping.
